StS
w.
r control over continued- migration and provide for continuous
collection of accumulated free product. Due to difficulties in
obtaining an above ground storage tank permit the existing
northern tank storage underground g "' g (unleaded) was used to contain
the recovered product from the bailingand
pumping programs.
Table 3 presents a summary of product recovery through August 26,,
1986, from monitoring wells 1, 3 and 4. To date, a total of about
435 gallons has been recovered. A sample of the recovered product
was analyzed for total lead by EPA method 7421 to confirm that
... the product loss was unleaded
gasoline. The results indicate. a
.27 mg/l (ppm) concentration which suggests that the recovered
«k product is an unleaded fuel because leaded fuel typically has a
lead concentration in excess of 1 ppm.
The groundwater pumped from well 4 is piped below grade to a
water treatment compound located at the southwest property
corner. The Initial Abatement System Plan , Figure 11, shows the
s
layout of the pumping and water treatment systems. i
x,
WATER TREATMENT
t
r'
A .water treatment system was installed so that the contami-
nated groundwater pumped from monitoring well 4 could be dis-
charged to the sanitary sewer. To expedite start-up of the
pumping system, the Pumped p groundwater is initially being treated '
" by a carbon filtration unit to reduce the concentration of
.: dissolved hydrocarbon components. A 400 gallon capacity carbon
„ tank capable of handling flow rates of up co 20 gallons per
minute was installed to treat the
pumped water. The treatment
system effluent is being discharged to the sanitary sewer system
f^1
on Waudman Avenue under a permit from the Stockton Municipal
Utilities Department.
Z i
71
i
23
