6.3.2 Sidewalk Area
Analysis of verification soil samples collected in November 1993 following tank removal
indicated the presence of detectable diesel fuel between 17 5 and 27 5 feet below grade
The location of the diesel impacted soils is the area adjacent to the east end of the new tank
(or the west end of the former middle tank), beginning at 17 5 feet below grade
Analysis of recent soil samples (collected in July 1994 from the east end of the new tank)
appear to indicate that diesel levels in soil have decreased significantly with time Only
residual diesel concentrations were encountered in the samples collected at 22 5 and 25 0 feet
below grade in borehole VW-B. Based on review of these analytical results, it appears that
diesel impacted soils are limited in extent to an area measuring approximately 21' long x 10'
wide by 5 feet deep and with a maximum diesel concentration of 110 ppm
Assumptions
1 maximum diesel concentration is 110 ppm (soil boring VW-B at 22 5 feet)
2 length (1) of impacted area is 21 feet
3 width (w) of impacted area is 10 feet
4 height (h) of impacted area is 5 feet
Volume of impacted soil calculation
Ixwxh = v
1 = length of area in feet
w = width of area in feet
h = height of area in feet
v = volume of area in cubic feet
21 ft x 10 ft x 5 ft = 1,050 ft3
MZJ04-06-95/UST/95-0089 9
