%moo, NOOO
Mr. Harlin Knoll
July 6, 1999
Page 2
V&W will abandon the three wells using the pressure grout method. V&W will mix a
20:1 cement:bentonite grout in a trailer-mounted cement mixer, equipped with a grout
pump and tremie pipe system. The grout will be pumped to the bottom of the wells using
a one-inch diameter PVC tremie pipe. Pressure will be applied during pumping using a
wellhead regulator cap outfitted with a water release hose. Any groundwater displaced
by the grout out the top of the well will be contained in five-gallon buckets and screened
olfactorily for petroleum odor. If free of petroleum odor, the displaced groundwater will
be discharged on-site to the land surface away from any storm drains or property lines.
Each of the wellhead street boxes will be removed and any exposed well casing will be
cut off. Solid waste will be disposed off-site as construction debris. Once the street
boxes have been removed, the remaining hole will be filled with ready-mix concrete.
The concrete surface will be finished smooth to grade.
Upon completion of the well abandonment, Ramage Environmental will prepare and
distribute a letter report documenting the operations. The report will be prepared and
stamped by a California Registered Geologist. The report will include copies of the
Department of Water Resources(DWR) well completion reports for the abandoned wells.
The well abandonment work is scheduled for Thursday duly 22, 1999,beginning at
8:30 am. At least two working days prior to field activities, PHS/EHD will be notified so
that field inspection schedules can be confirmed. The field activities should be
completed in one, half-day.
Thank you for your assistance on this project. If you have questions or need any
additional information,please call me at (916) 354-3250.
Sincerely, ►
RAMAGE ENVIRONMENTAL '''
Joseph Ramage, R.G. .
Project Geologist 'lF
CAI.
Attachments: Permit Application, Declaration and Check for Permit Fee `
Figure 1 (Site Location Map) and Figure 2 (Site Plan)
Table, Monitoring Well Construction
CC: Mr. Anthony Varni, Esq. - Varni, Fraser, Hartwell & Rodgers
Mr. Mark List--Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
