The RAP Addendum further proposes to discontinue operation of the SVE-AS
remediation system and switching to a less aggressive method of remediation,
specifically Oxygen Release Compound (ORC), stating that continued operation of the
SVE/AS system is not feasible due to site construction activities.
On the morning of March 19, 2001, PHS/EHD was informed by AGE that the RAP
Addendum had been prepared and would be submitted to PHS/EHD for review.
PHS/EHD was also informed that AGE wished to begin implementation of the plan that
day. PHS/EHD informed AGE that they would not receive approval of the RAP
Addendum that day. An appointment was made for a monthly air sampling site
inspection of the SVE/AS system for the afternoon of March 19, 2001. After PHS/EHD
personnel arrived on-site, they were informed that ORC socks had already been placed
in two of the wells. ORC was placed in a third well after PHS/EHD arrived. A fourth well
could not be accessed.
A review of analytical results from the air monitoring of the SVE/AS system indicates that
the system is functional and doing a thorough job of removing and destroying petroleum
hydrocarbon vapors from the subsurface of the site. Nine air sampling events have
occurred since the system was put into operation in May 2000. Influent concentrations
of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) have decreased from 34,000
micrograms per litre (µg/I)to 15,000 µg/l, and benzene concentrations have decreased
from 150 µg/I to 21µg/I.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
