' 16 February 1999 <br /> iAGE-NC Project No 97-0290 <br /> Page 4 of 1 I <br /> I <br /> advance borings B4 through B7, and 8 25-inch diameter hollow-stem augers that were used to <br />' advance borings MW1 through MW7 The drill rig and two-man crew were supplied by Soils <br /> Exploration Services, Inc (SES)of Rancho Cordova, California Auger returns generated by drilling <br /> were placed in 55-gallon DOT-approved drums, labeled and stored on-site pending laboratory <br />' analysis <br />' Soil samples were collected ahead of the drill bit using a split-tube sampler loaded with three pre- <br /> cleaned brass sleeves Due to sampler breakage, 3-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves were used for the <br /> collected of six samples collected from boring MW3 The remaining samples were collected in 2- <br /> inch by 6-inch brass sleeves The samples were collected at five-foot intervals, beginning at a depth <br /> of 40 feet bsg in boring MW2, at a depth of 5 feet bsg in borings MW1, MW3, MW4, MW5 and B4 <br /> and at a depth of 25 feet bsg. in bonngs B5, B6, B7, MW6 and MW7 using a 140-pound hammer to <br />' advance the sampler 18 inches The number of blows required to advance the sampler in 6-inch <br /> increments was recorded on the boring logs Sampling equipment was washed in an Alconox <br /> solution and rinsed with water prior to each sampling run to avoid cross-contamination <br />' For each sample, both ends of the leading sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed <br /> with tape The samples were labeled, stored on ice and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI <br />' Grab water samples were collected from borings B4 through B7 Prior to collection of the 55-foot <br /> p g g 5 oot <br />' soil sample, ground water was allowed to enter the augers A disposable bailer was lowered through <br /> the augers into ground water for sample collection The samples were transferred into 40-m1 VOA <br /> vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and one-liter amber bottles <br /> 1 without the preservative After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled <br /> container and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI <br />' 33 LOGGING <br />' Sol] was extruded from a second brass sleeve and screened for the presence of organic vapor using <br /> an organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo Environmental <br /> 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene),and the readings were recorded on the boring log The soil <br />' was then visually described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System(see Appendix <br /> A - Boring Logs) <br />' 34 <br /> WELL AND BORING COMPLETION <br /> Borings MW 1 through MW7 were completed as ground water monitoring wells using two-inch <br /> diameter PVC casing with 0 020-inch slotted screen installed from. 60 feet to 40 feet bsg with blank <br /> Advanced GeoFnx ironmentai,Inc <br />
