Y
21 April 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0321
b. If necessary, spray the excavated soil with water to minimize the release of volatile organic
compounds into the atmosphere. Upon completion of excavation activities, the removed soil
will be covered with plastic sheeting.
7. Collect soil samples from the sidewalls of the excavation. Approximately five (5) soil
samples will be collected. Samples will be collected from the backhoe bucket and preserved
in pre-cleaned brass tubes.
8. Seal samples with Teflon sheets, cap, and store on ice pending transportation to a state-
certified laboratory.
9. Label and log soil samples on a chain of custody form.
10. Analyze soil samples for TPH-d and volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and
xylenes: BTE&X) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and 8020, respectively.
4.2 STOCKPILE SOIL SAMPLING
Upon completion of excavation procedures, the stockpiled soil will be sampled for characterization
purposes. The following procedures will be performed:
I. Soil samples will be collected using a uretic soil sampler loaded with two 2 by 3-inch brass
sleeves. Approximately one soil sample will be collected for each 50 cubic yards of
stockpiled soil.
2. Seal samples with Teflon sheets, cap, and store on ice pending transportation to a state-
cert i ied laboratory.
3. Label and log soil samples on a chain of custody form.
4. Analyze soil samples for TPII-d and BTE&X in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and
8020, respectively.
4.3. REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of probing, sampling and laboratory analysis, a report will be prepared
summarizing results of the work performed. The report will include recommendations for additional
investigation or remediation, if necessary. The report will be in a format acceptable to the PHS-EHD
and CVRWQCB and will be reviewed and signed by a California Registered Geologist.
