Thatcher Chemical Tank Closure, 12/28/20
Figure 1 - Tank pieces, stored on pallets
A closure certification inspection was conducted on 12/15/2020 to verify surface acid or base
contamination had been removed from tank pieces.
•Tank A-D were evaluated on the upper left and upper right, in the middle of the stack
(left and right) and near the bottom of the stack for a total of 5 pH measurements from
each pallet
•The pieces on the pallet were tested using a spray bottle to wet the surface with
deionized water at different points on the pallet (upper left, upper right, left middle,
right middle, left lower & right lower). See figure 2, below
Figure 2 - Surface pH measurement
After wetting all identified points on the pallet, a strip of pH paper was laid face down on
the wetted surface and left there for a minimum of 15 minutes, to obtain adequate
contact/reaction time between the pieces’ surface & pH paper surface.
