Navone(N.San Jose) Page 2
Soil&Groundwater Investigation
Project No.879.2
March 29,2001
selected from either the capillary fringe or from a shallower depth if contamination is
detectable in field observations.
Groundwater Grab Sampling
Upon reaching the capillary fringe in each borehole, a hydropunch-type sampling tool will
be advanced into the groundwater and a groundwater sample will be collected from each
borehole. The samples are collected from a mini stainless steel bailer and gently transferred
into VOA vials (a ball check valve and tubing will be used if the bailer does not collect
sufficient water to sample). The VOA vial is capped, inverted, tapped, and checked for
headspace bubbles. The vial will be labeled and placed on ice for shipment to the
laboratory. Clean surgical gloves are worn at all times in handling of the sample and
sampling equipment. The bailer is cleaned between uses with an Alconox solution and
water rinse.
Groundwater is expected to be approximately 15 feet below ground surface (bgs). If
sufficient groundwater is not present at 15 feet bgs, the drill rods will be advanced an
additional five feet to 20 feet bgs. It should be noted that drilling deeper would increase
project costs according to the additional depth.
2.2 Soil Laboratory Analyses
Soil samples will be submitted to a California State Certified Laboratory and analyzed for:
• benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX by EPA method 602)
• total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G by EPA method 8015m)
• total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TEPH-D by EPA method
3540/8015m)
etection imrts:
Soil µg Kg1,000 5,000
A Chain of Custody will be completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure
sample integrity.
2.3 Groundwater Sample Analyses
The samples will be submitted to a California State Certified Laboratory and analyzed for:
• benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX by EPA method 602)
• total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G by EPA method 5030/8015m)
• total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TEPH-D by EPA method
3540/8015m)
DetectionLimits:
Water µg
A Chain of Custody will be completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure
sample integrity.
