Sierra Nevada
Stockton, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the "Quarterly Report" dated March
24 , 1995 and the amended page 9 of the report, prepared by Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc . (AGE) for the above referenced site .
Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in any of the groundwater
samples collected in December 1994 . The groundwater gradient
direction was to the northeast which is consistent with past flow
directions except for September 1994 when the direction was to the
south. Installation of a down-gradient monitoring well was not
discussed in the report . Information must be submitted that would
show that any existing groundwater contamination would be detected
in the existing monitoring wells .
In a letter dated October 5, 1994, PHS/EHD requested a plan for
continuing remediation of the site since the confirmation borings
indicated soil contamination still exists at or within five feet of
where first groundwater was determined to be in Spring 1986 . This
quarterly report recommends the use of a modeling program to
determine the potential for hydrocarbons to impact groundwater. If
AGE wants to submit computer modeling information on this site
FHS/EHD will evaluate it .
Vapor extraction well EW1 is a 21" well that is screened from
approximately 5 to 70 feet below grade . PHS/EHD recommends
investigating whether this well can be temporarily blocked off so
that vapors can be extracted from a shorter screened interval or
installation of an extraction well screened in the area where
contamination remains .
In order for this site to be closed the site information must be
presented to the PHS/EHD Technical Review Committee who will
determine if sufficient data exists to support no further
investigation or remediation of the site is warranted. If
contamination is proposed to be left in place a calculation of the
mass balance must be made and it must be shown that the amount
remaining will not impact groundwater. If the contamination will
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
