Sierra Nevada
Stockton, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) has reviewed the "Quarterly Report" dated August 26, 1994 prepared by
Geological Audit Services, Inc. for the above referenced site.
The report details the results of the confirmation borings CB1 and CB2, the
installation of monitoring wells MW8 and MW9, and the results of the water
samples obtained from ext-raction well EW1 and monitoring wells MW8 and MW9.
There was odor to the soil from 20 feet to 40 feet below grade when drilling CB1
and the soil sample results from 20 feet and 35 feet evidenced total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) at 300 parts per million (ppm) and 2200 ppm
respectively. There was odor to the soil from 35 feet to 45 feet below grade
when drilling CB2 and the soil sample results from 30 feet and 35 feet evidenced
TPH-g at 39 ppm and 450 ppm respectively. Seasonal high depth to groundwater at
this site in Spring 1986 was 40 feet below grade. Therefore, the contamination
remaining is a threat to groundwater and further remediation is required.
The groundwater flow was determined to be to the northeast. PHS/EHD recommends
monthly measurements of the depth to groundwater be taken and groundwater flow
determined in order to confirm the groundwater gradient. After the gradient is
confirmed the existence of a down-gradient well can be determined. If a down-
gradient well does not ex'st, then another monitoring well will be required to
be installed in the down-gradient direction.
The monitoring wells were sampled on September 16, 1994. A plan for continuing
remediation of the site should be included in the quarterly report that discusses
the September 16, 1994 water sample results.
If you have any questions contact Margaret Lagorio at (209) 468-3449.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Margaret Lagorio, Lead Senior REHS Diane Hinson, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
ML
C!
