Sierra Nevada
Stockton, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the "Interim Work Plan: Monitoring
Well Installation" dated April 14, 1994, prepared by Geological
Audit Services, Inc. for the above referenced site.
The work plan proposes drilling three or four soil borings to
maximum depths of 80 feet and completing three of the soil borings
to 2 inch monitoring wells. It also proposes approximately 15 soil
samples be analyzed for TPH as gas and BTEX.
Monitoring wells MW1, MW3 , MW4, MW5, MW6, and MW7 are all more than
80 feet from the location of the former underground storage tank.
When these wells were installed some soil samples from depths of 5
to 40 feet were analyzed and contaminants were not detected,
although the detection limits for BTEX were high. Since this soil
information is not close to the former tank location, the lateral
extent of soil contamination close to the tank area was rfever
defined. Soil information will be obtained from the installation
of the monitoring well close to MW2 (installed in the former tank
pit) . Additional soil information should be provided by the
installation of a soil boring on the opposite side of- the farmer
tank location from where the monitoring well will be installed.
When MW2 was installed soil samples from 15, 25, and 35 feet below
grade evidenced contamination. Organic vapor readings taken during
the installation of the vapor extraction well (also installed in
the former tank pit) were high from 15 to 50 feet below grade.
Therefore, several soil samples from.the soil boring and monitoring
well installed near the former tank pit should be analyzed.
Free product existed in MW1 until it went dry so several soil
samples from 35 feet below grade to current water level should be
analyzed when installing the monitoring well near MW1. Since
contamination evidenced in MW3 was low, fewer soil ' samples will
r
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
