performed between October 1988 and June 1994
hydrocarbons were detected in water samples No petroleum hydros les from MW-8 or EW-1 during p
either the June 1994 or September 1994 samplings. This indicates a dramatic decrease in
petroleum hydrocarbons since 1988 The process of vapor extraction in the vicinity of these
wells, combined with natural degradation is most likely responsible for the sharp decrease
in petroleum hydrocarbons Extremely low levels of toluene and xylenes were detected in
the sample from MW-9 during the June 1994 sampling. However, hydrocarbons were not
confirmed during the September 1994 sampling. Concentrations of all contaminants detected
during the July 1994 sampling were below the State of California Action Level (AL) and
Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLS) for drinking water
5.2 Additional Soil Remediation
In the letter dated October 5, 1994, the PHS/EHD stated that soil "contamination remaining
I is a threat to groundwater and further remediation is required " The PHS/EHD also stated
that "a plan for continued remediation of the site should be included in the quarterly report
that discusses the September 16, 1994 water sample results "
GeoAudit is currently evaluating options for the continued remediation of hydrocarbon
impacted soil at the site However, we believe conventional remediation methods will not
effectively reduce the volume of hydrocarbons remaining in the soil contamination at the
site
GeoAudit recommends that the next quarterly sampling be scheduled for December 1994,
monthly groundwater depth measurements should continue Options for further
remediation at the site will be discussed in the December 1994 Quarterly Report
6.0 LIMITATIONS
E
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordmanly
exercised by environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities The findings
were based upon analytical results provided by an independent laboratory. Evaluations of
the geologic/hydrogeologic conditions at the site for the purpose of this investigation are
made from a limited number of available data points (i a monitoring wells) and subsurface
conditions may vary away from these data points No other warranty, expressed or implied,
is made as to the professional recommendations contained in this report
f
I
10 deaon BIry QRf9 9Vl 1
1
