1
' REMEDIATION PROGRESS REPORT
GENOVA BAKERY, 749 NORTH SIERRA NEVADA AVENUE
STOCKTON CALIFORNIA
' February 26, 1993
INTRODUCTION
' To remediate gasoline contaminated soil in the vadose zone,
Geological Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit) is operating a vapor
' extraction system (VES) at the Genova Bakery facility 749 North
Sierra Nevada Avenue, Stockton, California (the site) . The project
is being conducted for the estate of Angelo Rolleri under the
supervision of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services
' Environmental Health Division. Data presented in this report
documents remediation activities through December 1992 . Discussed
in the sections below are the project background, VES operation,
status of the remediation project, and actions planned for the
first quarter of 1993.
' PROJECT BACKGROUND
The site is located in a flat, primarily residential neighborhood
of Stockton, California. The site location is illustrated on
Figure 1. A plan of the site is presented on Figure 2 .
Gasoline contaminated soil as a result of a now removed, leaking
' underground storage tank (UST) was identified in 1987 . Subsequent
assessment of the extent of contamination was done by Groundwater
Technology, Inc (GWT) and documented in reports dated November 13,
' 1987 , and October 30, 1988 .
Soil encountered in the environmental investigation consisted of
sandy clay, clayey sand, silty sand, and sand. Ground water was
' initially at a depth of approximately 45 feet but declined over
time to an estimated 60 feet at this time.
' Hydrocarbon impacted soil was identified to extend from the bottom
of the tank excavation at approximately 14 feet below ground
surface (BGS) to approximately 45 feet BGS in the vicinity of the
former tank. Free product was found on the groundwater.
Free product was removed from the ground water by bailing until the
water level dropped below the bottom of the wells. Remediation of
' the soil using vapor extraction was proposed in a Work Plan for In-
Situ Vacuum Extraction by GeoAudit dated May 28, 1991. Details of
