1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION AND CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS
1.1 Introduction
The general scope of work consists of the construction, development and
performance testing of one groundwater extraction well. The extraction well will
be installed for the Occidental Chemical Corporation's Lathrop Groundwater
Remedial Program located on property currently owned by the J.R. Simplot
Company near Lathrop, California (Figures 1 and 2). The extraction well will be
designated EW-4A.
For the purposes of the remedial program, the aquifer is divided into three
zones. The "shallow" zone extends from 31 feet to 83 feet beneath the ground
surface (bgs), the "intermediate" zone ranges from 84 feet to 150 feet bgs, and the
deep zone extends from 151 feet to 218 feet. The new extraction well is being
installed to extract groundwater with elevated contaminant concentrations solely
from the deep zone of the aquifer.
The new extraction well will replace the existing extraction well EW-4, and
will supplement six other existing extraction wells at the site which are part of an
ongoing remedial program. Because it is the intent for the well to draw from a
specific hydrogeologic zone, the well will be constructed with the screen location
in a specific target zone. The actual screen depth will be selected based on the
results of geophysical logging.
1.2 Site Conditions
The proposed well site (shown on Figures 2,3 & 4) is located in an open
field area. Perimeter fencing is the only access restriction. Accessibility to the
1
