maximum depth of 210 feet or as determined by the supervising geologist or
recommended by the Contractor. The casing shall be new, low carbon steel pipe,
8.625 in. outside diameter, Schedule 20, with a minimum wall thickness of .250
in. and weight 22.36 lbs/ft. The casing shall extend 1.5 feet above the ground
surface.
For field assembly by welding, ends of sections may be either belled or
furnished with collars. Collars shall be of the same thickness and have the same
chemical and physical properties as the corresponding casing section, shall be
five inches in width, shall be rolled to fit the outside diameter, and shall be welded
to the casing section. The inside edge of the collars and the outside edge of the
adjacent casing length shall be ground or sufficiently scarfed to remove sharp
edges or burrs. Section ends shall be machined flat, perpendicular of the axis of
the casing. Welders required for field assembly of well casing and screen shall
be qualified in accordance with the latest revision of the section titled, "WELDING
PROCEDURES" of the ASME Boiler Construction Code or by the AWS Standard
Qualification Procedures. All sections shall be joined by a continuous weld with
not less than 3/16 inch full fillet.
Well screen shall be 8.625 in. outside diameter, wire wound V notch,
stainless steel such as manufactured by Johnson Division, P.O. Box G4118 St.
Paul, Minnesota, 55164, or approved equal. The length of the screen section and
the size of slot openings shall be determined by the Contractor after consultation
with the supervising geologist. For bid purposes, assume the screen lengths as
specified in Section 2.2 with 0.030 inch openings. The shape of openings or slot
shall be so designed as to prevent clogging and shall be free from jagged edges
or irregularities that will accelerate clogging or corrosion. The screen shall have
adequate strength to resist any external forces that will be applied after it is
installed.
10
