DRILLING
l
1..
Soil borings B-1 and B-2 were advanced utilizing a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 equipped with
[ 1.25-inch diameter probe rods with an attached 2-inch diameter soil sampler, using "direct push"
technology. The soil borings were advanced vertically to depths of 60 feet bsg.
L 3.2. SOIL SAMPLING
Discrete soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals, beginning at 5 feet bsg to the total depth in
boring B-1 (60 feet bsg) and to 25 feet bsg in boring B72. Soil samples were collected using a
Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with four,pre-cleaned 1.125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves.
Soil samples were preserved by covering both ends of the brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping,
Land sealing with tape. Each sample sleeve was labeled with soil probe boring location, depth, time,
date and sampler's initials. Each sample was then-logged on a chain of custody form, placed in a
chilled container and transported to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories (CTEL),-a State of
California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory.
3.3. SOIL SAMPLE ANALYSIS
Selected samples were analyzed for the following:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel(TPH-d)in accordance with EPA Method
8015 Modified; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tertiary-butyl ether
(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method SW846 8021.
L 3.4. SOIL LOGGING .
During drilling, sample duplicates were monitored for the presence of organic vapor using an organic
vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID:Thermo Environmental 580B, 10.0 eV,
calibrated to isobutylene)and were visually described on boring logs in accordance with the Unified
Soil Classification System (USCS). Boring logs are included in Appendix A.
i
L Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
