Report offindings of Soil Sampling and Analysis Page 3 <br /> 2216 STEWART STREET August 13,2008 <br /> WKA No. 8214.01 <br /> Field Activities <br /> Prior to drilling activities, the soil boring locations were marked with white paint and Underground <br /> Service Alert(USA)was notified to obtain utilities clearance and a permit was obtained from <br /> SJCEHD. On August 1, 2008, V &W Drilling advanced soil borings D1, D2, and D3 to <br /> approximate depths of 7-1/2 feet below ground surface (bgs)to 16 feet bgs beneath the former <br /> 5,000-gallon underground storage tank(UST) and former associated fuel dispenser using a truck- <br /> mounted direct-push technology Geoprobe®drill rig(Figure 2). The borings were advanced <br /> under the direct supervision of field personnel from WKA. Soil boring D1 was advanced to an <br /> approximate depth of 7-1/2 feet bgs beneath the former fuel dispenser. Soil borings D2 and D3 <br /> were advanced to approximately 2 to 3 feet bgs before encountering a concrete slab. The borings <br /> were then advanced at 20-degree angles off of vertical approximately to the south of the original <br /> sample locations to approximate depths of 16 feet bgs from vertical beneath the fill and opposite <br /> ends of the former UST. Soil cuttings from the borings were screened in the field for volatile <br /> organic compounds (VOCs) and petroleum hydrocarbons using a photoionization detector(PID). <br /> Soil samples D1-1, D2-1, and D34 were retained for chemical analysis. Soil samples were <br /> obtained from the boring at depths ranging from 6 to 16 feet bgs. The samples were obtained <br /> using 2-inch diameter MacroCores® and logged in the field using the Unified Soil Classification <br /> System(USCS). <br /> The borings were backfilled to surface grade with neat cement slurry. Mr. Harlan Knolls of <br /> SJCEHD performed the grout inspection. <br /> The soil samples were sealed with plastic end caps and immediately placed in an ice chest <br /> containing ice and submitted under chain-of custody documentation to Kiff Analytical LLC for <br /> chemical analysis of Methyl-t-butyl ether(MtBE) using EPA Method 8260B. <br /> Findings <br /> Subsurface soil encountered during drilling and sampling activities consisted primarily of moist, <br /> brown, silty sand with clay and sandy clayey silt. Petroleum hydrocarbon odoriferous/stained <br /> soil was not encountered during drilling and sampling activities. PID readings taken of soil <br /> vapor did not reveal detectable concentrations of VOCs and petroleum hydrocarbons. <br /> Groundwater was not encountered during drilling and sampling activities. <br />
