Mr. Michael J. Infurna
July 9, 1996
Page 2
* Wells will be constructed of 4-inch diameter Schedule 40 polyvinyl
chloride (PVC) casing and 10-feet of 0.020 slot screen. The artificial
filter pack will be 2/16 sand or equivalent and will be tremied through
the augers as the augers are withdrawn to approximately two-feet above
the top of the screen. A two-foot thick bentonite seal will be placed on
top of the filter pack and a cement/bentonite grout will be tremied to
grade. A water-tight PVC cap or expansion plug will be installed at
the top of the casing to prevent water from entering the well casing.
The well will then be completed with a water-tight traffic rated vault
placed approximately two inches above grade to allow for surface
runoff (Figure 3).
* Soil cuttings produced during drilling activities will be transported to an
on-site stockpile. The stockpiled soil will subsequently be loaded into
gondola cars and transported to the East Carbon Development
Corporation landfill in Utah for disposal.
* Equipment will be cleaned using a high pressure steam cleaner prior to
drilling each well and after completion of all well construction
activities.
2. Well development.
* Monitoring wells will be developed a minimum of 48-hours after
completion. Well development will consist of a combination of bailing,
surging with a 4-inch surge block and pumping, until a minimum of ten
well volumes have been removed.
* All water collected during decontamination procedures and well
development will be contained in 55-gallon Department of
Transportation (DOT) approved drums pending receipt of analytical
results.
SCHEDULE AND REPORTING
The proposed field work will be implemented within a week of receipt of notification of
approval of this workplan and well permit application (Attachment B) by San Joaquin County
Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (County). Field activities will be
completed in two days. A summary of field activities and well construction logs will be
submitted as part of a report to the Regional Board summarizing soil remediation activities at
469-029.]tr/07-09-96/u/keydata/oldtracy/letters
TerraNext
