u
Soil Vapor Extraction and Air Sparge Feasibility Evaluation Work Plan
University Park
September 15,2004
Page 7
zone gas samples will be collected for the field measurement of organic vapors. Water samples will be
collected from the AS well and the observation wells for the field measurement of D.O. The test will be
repeated at two higher applied pressures. It is anticipated that each test will last two hours or less.
{ 6.0 COMBINED SVE AND AS PILOT TEST
This section describes the proposed combined SVE and AS pilot test.to be conducted at the site. Data
collected during the pilot test will be used in designing the overall SVE and AS remediation system. The
purpose of the test is to evaluate how operating the SVE and AS systems simultaneously affects the SVE 3
radius of influence, changes in water levels, and changes in organic vapor concentrations. At least 48
} hours prior to implementation of the pilot test, Condor will notify the.SJCAPCD and the SJCEHD.
6.1 COMBINED SVE AND AS PILOT TEST PROCEDURES
` The setup for the combined pilot test is the same as for the SVE and AS pilot tests, except that the helium
gas tracer will not be used. The SVE test will be initiated first at the optimum vacuum determined during
the previous SVE pilot test. The applied vacuum and airflow rate at the SVE extraction well will be !
monitored and recorded. The induced vacuum and the depth to water at the observation wells will be
monitored and recorded. After the SVE system has achieved steady state conditions, the AS test will be
started. Influent and effluent vapor samples will be collected for laboratory analyses from the SVE system
F prior to starting the AS test and toward the end of the combined test. Vapor sample collection and
i laboratory analyses will be the same as described in section 4.2. Periodic measurements of organic vapor
concentrations will be made of the vapor influent to the blower and at the effluent from the carbon
canisters using a PID. It is anticipated that the combined SVE and AS pilot test will continue for a
minimum of at least 12 hours.
7.0 REPORTING
f A report describing the SVE well installation, the AS well installation, and the pilot test activities will be
prepared for submittal to the SJCEHD. At a minimum the report will include: (1) a description of the
fieldwork conducted at the site, (2)the results of the pilot tests, and(3)Condor's recommendations.' i
j
1
i
1k
f
1
1
A
i1 CONDOR
