2000 STIMSON ROAD
WKA No 2086 05
March 25, 1993
Page 5
Ground Water Conditions
Ground water was encountered during drilling at depths ranging from 46 to 49 feet below grade
tRecent ground water measurements (February 24, 1993) indicate the ground water has stabilized
at a depth of 45 feet Based on these latest water level measurements, the ground water flow
direction beneath the site appears to be flowing to the northeast with a hydraulic gradient of
0 001 ft/ft
Ground water samples were collected from wells MW1, MW2 and MW3 on February 10, 1993
The samples were analyzed for TPH as gasoline, diesel, JP4, motor oil, and BTEX Test results
revealed no detectable concentrations of hydrocarbons or BTEX in the water samples The wells
were developed, purged and sampled as described In Appendix A A summary of test results for
the water samples is included as Table 4 Laboratory reports and chain-of-custody documents are
included to Appendix B
CONCLUSIONS
I Based on the results of our Investigation and previous investigations, soil beneath the former
three 5000-gallon fuel tanks is contaminated primarily with JP4 The contamination appears to
be mostly confined to the soils beneath the northern half of the former tanks to a depth of at least
40 feet Soil contamination attenuates by a depth of 35 feet along the eastern edge of the former
excavation The lateral extent of contamination has been established to the north, northeast,
south and west based on no detectable concentrations of TPH as JP4 In samples from borings B1,
B2, B4, B5, MW1 and MW3
The lateral extent of soil contamination from toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes has not been
established The contamination appears to be limited to discrete horizontal layers between the
depths of 20 and 30 feet, witl-, the exception of trace concentrations of toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylenes in the five foot sample from boring DI-1
 o
Recycled paper E ASSOCIATES INC
