1 . 0 INTRODUCTION
The Office of the State Architect (OSA) has been delegated
responsibility by the Legislature for conducting sub-surface
environmental investigations at many State owned facilities . West
& Hansen Engineers, Inc. , a Consultant to OSA, has been assigned to
perform site investigation in and around the aircraft washpad
system at the Stockton Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) . The
site investigation is based on a technical workplan submitted to
and approved by the Central Valley Region, Water Quality Control
Board. In this Section the site investigation scope, objective and
approach are described.
1 . 1 Scope
The scope of this project includes performing the site
investigation proposed in "Final Site Assessment Workplan, Stockton
Army Aviation Support Facility" , January 1991 . The AASF is located
at 2000 Stimson Road, Stockton California 95206 . Specific scope
items include:
• Complete 3 hand augered borings through the aircraft
washpad to a total depth of 10 feet.
• Complete 3 hand augered borings adjacent to the
downstream clarifier to a total depth of 10 feet.
• Complete 2 hand augered borings in the discharge pit to
a total depth of 10 feet.
• Obtain soil samples from 2 ' , 5-7 ' and 10 ' in each boring.
• Obtain one sediment grab sample from the flightline catch
basin.
• Analyze all sail samples for total petroleum
hydrocarbons, purgeable aromatics and semi-volatile
compounds .
• Prepare a report of findings including recommendations
for additional investigation or site remediation.
This project is essentially a screening survey to determine if
contamination exists at any of the study areas . The scope does not
include determination of complete contaminant extent, if
discovered.
The scope of this pro)ect does not include investigating possible
contamination in areas other than in and around the aircraft wash
Pad system site or any other environmental compliance activities .
1
