Sutter Street SITE CODE: 9327
Stockton CA 95202
APN 139-250-05
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has
reviewed the "Evaluation of Potential Soil & Groundwater Contamination" report dated July,
2000, that was prepared by Hydro-Geo Consultants, Inc. (HCG) on behalf of the above
referenced site and has the following comments.
On May 22, 2000 a series of seven direct push borings were advanced on site. The borings
extended to approximately 41-feet below surface grade (bsg). Soil and grab groundwater
samples were collected from each boring and analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbon constituents.
Results of the analyses indicate that an unauthorized release of petroleum hydrocarbon
constituents has occurred at this site. Groundwater contamination was evidenced in all samples
analyzed, with the most significant levels noted in the samples from the northeast corner of the
site (borings A and B). Significant soil contamination in this same area extended to 40-feet
below surface grade (bsg).
Per California Code of Regulations, Title 23, division 3, Chapter 16, section 2724, please submit
a work plan to define the vertical and lateral extent of the documented soil and groundwater
contamination at this site. The work plan should include the installation of groundwater
monitoring wells on-site as well as in the down-gradient direction towards the east/northeast.
Submit the work plan to PHS/EHD by September 22, 2000.
Please conduct a well/receptor survey for this site. Include in the survey all domestic, industrial,
agricultural, municipal and other wells within a 2000-foot radius of the site. Submit the survey to
PHS/EHD with the report of findings following the next phase of work completed at this site. If
you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
(mx Gt
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Margare Lagorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
a Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
