Ms. Duncan
August 24, 2006
BBL does not believe the soil impacts reported in the sample collected 75 feet below ground surface(bgs)
in boring CPT-1 are associated with the impacts from the underground storage tanks (USTs) reportedly
abandoned in-place near MW-1. The table below summarizes the concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents detected in soil samples collected from borings advanced near MW-1, as
reported in the Cone Penetrometer Testing Report dated October 17, 2003.
Boring/Depth(bgs) TPH-G TPH-D Total BTEX
SB-A/10 feet ND 33 ND
SB-A/20 feet 3.1 170 ND
SB-A/30 feet 300 2,400 7.2
SB-A/40 feet 250 1,600 32
CPT-1/55 feet ND(< 1.0) —3/, ND (< 10) ws/ 0.05 -14/i
CPT-1/78 feet 4,800 —01/1 ND(<10) r`^5 i 475 "5 t
few PP6
Concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-G)and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and xylenes(BTEX) reported for soil samples collected from boring SB-A at depths of 10, 20, 30, and 40
feet bgs were one to three orders of magnitude lower than in the soil sample collected at the 78-foot depth
interval from boring CPT-1. Total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-D), which was detected in all
four soil samples collected from SB-A at concentrations ranging from 33 mg/kg to 2,400 mg/kg) was not
detected in the soil sample collected at the 78-foot depth interval from boring CPT-1. Additionally, a soil
sample collected from boring CPT-1 at a depth of 55 feet bgs was non-detect for TPH-G, TPH-D and had
only slight detections of ethylbenzene and xylenes (0.020 µg/1 and 0.025 µg/1, respectively). The attached
figure (Figure 4 from the Cone Penetrometer Testing Report) illustrates the soil concentrations of TPH-G
and TPH-D near MW-1 in cross section.
Based on the above, BBL believes the soil impacts associated with the USTs reportedly abandoned in-
place near MW-1 have been delineated at a depth of 55 feet bgs.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the contents of this Work Plan, please contact David
Evans of BBL at (916) 857-0124 extension 226 or by email at devans(abbl-,)bblor myself at (315)
671-9197 or by email at dlay(&bbl-inc.com.
Sincerely,
Q ,oFESS/ON,
BLASLAND, BOUCK& LEE, INC. 44 p.
