' Sutter Office Center Project 2267-E
July 10, 2000 Page 2
' 2 Develop a tentative work plan to evaluate the contamination potential at the captioned
site, based on the available data.
' 3 Drill seven probes to a depth of 41 feet in thevicinity of the former underground
t storage tanks at this site Soil samples were obtained at 10 foot intervals for testing, and
groundwater samples were obtained at the groundwater level in each probe Test the soil
and groundwater samples (35 samples) for the following petroleum contaminants. TPH-
gas, TPH-diesel, benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, xiyenes, lead, methyl tertiary butyl
ether (MTBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), ethyl tert-butyl ether(ETBE), di-
isopropyl ether (DIPE), and tert-butyl alcohol (TBA)
4 Compile and evaluate this s data, summarize this information in a report that Includes
background data, a description of the hydrogeologic setting, test results and findings.
' BACKGROUND DATA
It is our understanding that a Standard Oil Service Station was in operation from the late
' 1960's until December 1980 on this approximately 0.7 acre site (APN 139-250-05) east
of the 11 story office building at 242 N. Sutter Avenue. The approximate locations of the
' pump islands for this service station are shown on the 1972 Sanborn Map. Upon closure
of this service station in 1980, the underground storage tanks were removed from the site,
according to the County Building Inspector's Card. We do not know exactly where the
' removed underground storage tanks were located, however, it is our opinion that they
were in the northeast corner of the property, in close proximity to the pump islands.
' A small service station, with of four 550 gallon underground storage tanks, was also
apparently located on this site, according to the 1950 Sanborn Map, see Plate 1 Based on
aerial photographs and other information, it appears that this facility operated from the
1940's until February 1960, when the underground storage tanks were abandoned and
1
HYDRO GEO CONSULTANTS INC
