• 25 October 2002 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 02-0964 <br /> Page 6 of 8 <br /> A second soil boring will be located no more than three feet from the first CPT boring for soil and <br /> ground water sample collection Based on CPT findings, discrete soil samples may be collected at <br /> various depths between 40 and 160 feet bsg based on significant lithologic variation Soil samples will <br /> be collected utilizing a 2-inch diameter piston soil sampling assembly loaded with pre-cleaned brass <br /> sleeves Upon soil sample retrieval, a brass sleeve will be removed from the samplei The ends of the <br /> brass sleeve will be immediately covered with Teflon or aluminum sheets, sealed with plastic end <br /> caps, secured with tape and immediately placed in a chilled container for transportation to a DHS- <br /> certified laboratory Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the location, boring designation, depth, <br /> time, date and sampler's initials <br /> Soil sample duplicates will be monitored for the presence of organic vapor using a photo-ionization <br /> detector(PID Thermo Environmental 580B, 10 0 eV,calibi ated to isobutylene)and the readings will <br /> be recoi ded on boring logs Soil sample duplicates will be visually described using the Unified Soil <br /> Classification System (USCS) and the descriptions will be recorded on the boring logs <br /> Grab gi ound water samples will be collected from within 2-inch diameter hollow-stem rods equipped <br /> with a foui-foot, extendable 0 01-inch slotted PVC screen Grab ground water samples will be <br /> collected in selected inter vals of saturated poi ous and permeable material The screen will be exposed <br /> • at the selected depths and a stainless steel bailer will be used to retrieve the water samples Ground <br /> water samples for appropriate EPA analyses will be collected into 40-m1 volatile otganic analysis <br /> (VOA) vials containing 0 5 nil of hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative <br /> Aftei collection, the samples will be appropriately labeled and placed on ice and kept in a cooler until <br /> delivered to the laboi atony for analysis Chain-of-custody protocols will be used to document sample <br /> custody transfer from the field to the analytical laboratory A chain-of-custody form will accompany <br /> the samples <br /> Proposed CPT soil boring locations are illustrated on Figure 2 Following borehole advancement, <br /> portland cement (grout mix) will be utilized to backfill each borehole from total depth utilizing a <br /> down-hole tremie pipe The EHD will be given a 48-hour inspection notice to inspect the grout mix <br /> and backfilling activities <br /> • <br /> Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc <br />
