The same samples contained TPH-diesel levels ranging from
230ppm at 15 feet to below detection levels at depths of 25 and
31.5 feet. Boring #4 also exhibited hydrocarbon contamination at
lower levels. All other borings were found to be non-detectable
for hydrocarbon contamination.
Your consultant, Wallace-Kuhl and Associates has recommended that
contaminated soil be excavated and stockpiled on-site for
remediation or disposal/recycling at an appropriate facility.
During an inspection by San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) field staff, it was
discovered that soil samples had not been properly preserved. The
samples were not cooled to 40C until after 4: 30 pm. Therefore,
non-detectable analytical results cannot be recognized by this
office. Also the investigation was terminated at 31.5 feet with
residual contamination detected.
The proposed re-excavation may be effective for immediate source
removal, however, due to inconclusive sample results from the
previous investigation, further soil investigation will be
necessary to determine the lateral and vertical extent of
contamination.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
