Split-Spoon Sampler, lined with arse 6•inclr long brass tubes, into the
undisturbed soil, 'The sampler is then removed from the bottom of the boring. The ends of the
bottom(third)tube are covered with Teflon and scaled with tight fitting plastic caps.
Bach sample is individ rally labeled. The label includes Kleinfelder's rams, job number, the date
And time thu sample was collected, ilia employee number of the individual who performed the
sampling, and a unique five-di iL sample identijIvAinn number.
Ii-2.4 Hydropunch GroundwaterSamplling
Hydropunch is a method to collect representative groundwater samples front boreholes without
the need to install morlitoring wells. This method is usually used as an exploration tool for
tereenlug groundwater quality and reducing the number of wells needed at a site,
A boring is drilled to the desired sampling depth, usually to the top of the groundwater surface,
using hollow stem augers. The Hydropuneh system, consisting of a steel drive point attached to
a stainless stool barrel with an internal PVC slotted screen,is driven 2 to 3 feet past the bottom of
the boring into the uppermost water bearing tone. The barrel is connected to the surface using
clean,2-inch diameter hollow steal rods. 'nit barrel is then pulled back I to 2 feat exposing the
internal PVC scroon to the soil. Groundwater then mtcrs rhe barrel through the screen order
hydrostatic pressure and is brought to the surface witlh a clean, Teflon or stainless steel bailer.
The samples are itnmodiately lebcled and placed in an iced sample container.
Equipment used for Hydropunch sampling is decontamiva:ed prior to use at each sampling
location by stern cleaning,or by scrubbing in a trisodium phosphate or non-phosphate detergent
wash followed by a distilled water rinse.
8-2.5 Collection-of RAI'Pr•obc Grouudvraler Samples
0,o-timeotuidwater samprles ar,colla ted using a FAT nrobe, which is an insiht grotu;dwater-
s:mplhig device.
