21 May 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1045
2.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the EHD. In addition, an update to the
health and safety plan presently on-file will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
1985). Prior to mobilization, each monitoring well location will be clearly marked and a utility
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
2.2. DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to advance three pilot soil borings at the site for installation of ground water
monitoring wells,using a truck-mounted,hollow-stem drill rig equipped with 8.25-inch hollow-stem
augers to advance the two well borings to approximately 65 feet bsg and one well boring to 120 feet
bsg; the total depth of each well boring may vary according to hydrogeologic/geologic conditions
encountered during drilling.
• Proposed pilot boring MW-9 will be advanced approximately 10 feet south of existing well
MW-1, highest known concentration of dissolved hydrocarbons, S-
• Proposed pilot boring MW-10 will be advanced approximately 25 feet soutH/"of existing well
MW-8, down-gradient from highest known concentration of dissolved hydrocc?rbons,
a
• Prop sed pilot boring MW-11 will be advanced approximately 25 feet southof existing well
MW-J, in the down-gradient, vertically, from highest known concentration of dissolved
hydrocarbons (Figure 2). ( c Z-dL—
Petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel additive(1,2-DCA)have been detected in the deepest soil samples
collected, 65 feet bsg, at the former UST area. The soil impact is not defined vertically, thus
justifying the sampling of the deep soil boring to 120 feet bsg. Soil samples will be collected from
within the 8.25-inch hollow-stem augers at five-foot intervals beginning_at 40 feet bsg using a (t/
California split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves. The soil sample with the highest observable S.d, l
contamination, and at depths to 00 feet bs should be analyzed.Selected soil samples with geologic .SCS '
significance or considerable lack o ydrocarbon impact should be analyzed by a State of California
DHS-certified laboratory for the fo lowing constituents: 'rI1`J ;
• Total petroleum hydrocar ns quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA 1
Method 8015 Modified, 19
`10
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
