PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration.
The work plan indicated that 20 samples would be collected to characterize approximately 2,400
cubic yards of soil which presumably has been remediated. Since the depth of the stockpiled
soil ranged from 1 to 3 feet, it may not be possible to sample all designated locations at 2 feet.
Please also note that the soil samples must be stored in an ice chest with adequate crushed ice to
maintain preserve the samples at 4 degrees celsius pending laboratory analysis.
In order to characterize the stored development and purge water, the work plan proposed to
collect samples prior to evaluating disposal options. Based on concentrations obtained during
groundwater sampling, this sampling will likely be unnecessary. Please contact Larry Williams
with the City of Stockton Department of Municipal Utilities at (209) 937-8750 to obtain
permission to discharge the stored water to the sanitary sewer.
Please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337 to schedule an inspection to observe the
confirmation soil sampling of the stockpiled soil located at 1320 West Weber.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
