piping were removed from the site by SEMCO under permit and direction of the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Division.
Analyses of the sample collected beneath the northern portion of the product line
i
of Tanks #1 and #2 detected 78 mg/kg diesel. Soil samples collected from beneath
Tanks #1 and #2 were non-detect. The soil beneath Tanks #1 and #2 and its product
lines were resampled in March 1990 in response to a'request from San Joaquin County
I
Health Department. Total petroleum hydrocarbons in the gasoline range (TPH-g), TPH
in the diesel range (TPH-d), and the aromatics benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylenes (BTEX) were all not detected. The depth from which these samples were
collected is poorly documented, but appears to be approximately 14 feet (PHS/EHD,
1995).
In January of 1990, an estimated 500 to 600 cubic yards of petroleum-affected soil
were excavated from the former Tank #3 area by WHF Environmental Consultants
(WHF). The excavated soils were transported to the Union Ice facility located at 1320
West Weber Street, Stockton .and bioremediated. Confirmation samples collected from _
the floor-at a depth of approximately 25 feet below ground surface (bgs) and side walls
of the Tank #3 excavation indicated residual contamination of TPH as motor oil
(TPH-o) at up to 285 mg/kg and ethylbenzene at.57 mg/kg (WHF, 1990). Soil samples
collected.during the installation of monitoring well MW-1, located approximately 30 feet i
northwest of the Tank #3 location, indicated toluene in the soils from 30 feet bgs down
to the water table (55 feet bgs) at concentrations ranging from 16 to 130 mg/kg (WHF,
1993).
Y In April of 1992, WHF Consultants excavated approximately 1,200 cubic yards of
petroleum-affected soil from the former Tank #4 area. The affected soils were
transported to the Union Ice .facility on Weber Street and bioremediated. The
excavation extended to a depth of approximately 35 feet bgs and was terminated to the
west at the Union Pacific rail line right of way, and to the north and east at the edge of '
R41820A-1222950-2
soilvap.ptn 2
I
