Inventory •
work with their District Manager on each visit to identify any potential trends and root causes
of damages. Assessment of and resolution of the root causes will help slow or stop the flow of
damages and help increase store profitability.
Note: The Dollar General Environmental Compliance Program and the guidelines
established within that program supersede any other storage and disposal policy. DSD
product that is brought in by a DSD vendor direct to the store should not be damaged to zero.
DSD vendors should give credit for damaged DSD product and take the damaged product
with them when they leave.
To ensure freshness of products, Store Managers should refer to START for weekly product
rotation categories. The Store Manager should ensure that when employees are rotating
merchandise, any out-of-date product is damaged to zero. Remove all baby food items within
30 days of expiration from the shelf, and damage to zero.
If empty packaging is discovered (indicating theft), the Store Manager (or manager on duty, as
delegated by the Store Manager) should use the on hand adjustment process to update
inventory accurately (refer to the On-Hand Adjustments (SOP 8) policy and procedures). Do
not process empty packaging as a damage to zero.
Field employees (Divisional Vice Presidents, Regional Directors, District Managers, Store
Managers, or managers on duty as delegated by the Store Manager) do not have the
authority to approve additional merchandise marhdowns or discounts beyond those
which are provided by Store Support Center. This includes, but is not limited to,
damages to zero, marhdown cart, price overrides, generic SKUs, exceptions to coupon
policy, etc., and applies to all merchandise types without exception. Violation of this
policy will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Procedures
1. From the HHT All In One screen, tap <Menu>.
2. Tap <Inv Adj>.
3. Press the drop down arrow at the Inv Adjustment Type box, and select <Damages>.
4. Scan or manually enter the UPC.
CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE /
Questions regarding the markdown process? Call Inventory Support at 1-700-200-1234, ext. 4856.
If the Environmental Compliance Program has been implemented at your store, the Store Manager
should call the Store Facilities Maintenance and Services Hotline at 1-866-300-0004 with any
questions regarding the proper disposal process.
o 2020 D.llar General FT-2001 effective 20200727 •
