EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN
Active Shooter
Violence by employees, customers, and visitors is not acceptable.
• Take threats seriously and report them to your manager and the Emergency
Coordinator. Usually there are signs that precede a violent act. Try to be aware
of that kind of behavior.
• Do not make counter threats. This only escalates the tension. Maintain your
control. Stay calm. Speak slowly and lower your voice.
• Take immediate action and report any incidents to your manager or the
Emergency Coordinator.
• If a co-worker, customer or visitor becomes involved in an act of violence, notify
the Emergency Coordinator and your manager immediately. Do not become
involved yourself.
• Here are some things that can lead to violence that you should be aware of:
o Disciplining of a co-worker or a poor performance review
o Insubordination
o Downsizing, layoffs (leading to stress)
o Noncompliance of rules and procedures
o Threats by a co-worker or a visitor
o Family problems or legal problems.
Physical Violence
In the event of physical violence (no use of weapon), notify Management as soon as
possible and then your supervisor. Be sure to give the location and a description of the
incident. After doing this, go back to the scene but keep a safe distance away and
write down everything that you see and hear. DO NOT become involved. When the
situation is over, give a copy of your notes to security along with your name and
department.
Knife Use
In the event that someone becomes violent or threatening with a knife, razor blade or
sharp object, evacuate the area immediately and CALL THE POLICE AT 911 - notify
them of violence involving a gun. Call management when you reach a safe place report
the location, description of the person in question, and the weapon. Write down
everything you have seen and heard. When the situation is over, give a copy of your
notes to the police along with your name and phone number.
Gun Use
In the event that someone is threatening or becomes violent with a gun, evacuate the
area immediately and CALL THE POLICE AT 911 - notify them of violence involving a
gun. Call the Emergency Coordinator when you reach a safe place report the location,
11
