MANAGING HAZARDOUS WASTE
HANDLING LEAKING HAZARDOUS WASTE
All leaking hazardous waste items should be placed in a gallon size, zip-loc style sealing storage bag
using the additional precautions below. Remember only place one leaking item into a storage bag.
1. Always wear gloves and goggles, as appropriate.
2. Collect all leaking materials and place item in a zip-loc style sealing storage bag.
3. Add Spill Magic or paper towels into the bag to ensure no additional liquid will leak from the bag.
4. Seal the bag completely.
5. Place the sealed bag into a second zip-loc style sealing storage bag and add disposable gloves
used for handling the leaking item.
6. Seal the second bag completely.
7. Using a permanent marker, write the name of the product, SKU and your initials on the bag.
8. Place the double-bagged hazardous waste item in the hazardous waste container labeled with the
appropriate category of waste.
9. Log SKU and Product information onto your Non-Saleable Hazardous Material Checklist.
EXAMPLES:
CORRECT INCORRECT
M1iRfNTF.NAN
- Leaking item double bagged - Leaking item single bagged
- Spill magic added to bag to absorb - Spill magic is not added to bag
any additional leak - Liquid is free in bag
NOTE: No free liquids can be in the zip-loc style sealing storage bag or containers. Spill Magic or
absorbent pads must always be placed in the zip-loc style sealing storage bag if there is free liquids.
BIGLOTS!
