Box 105605
Atlanta, GA 30348
RESCISSION OF CLEANUP AND ABATEMENT ORDER, FORMER GEORGIA-PACIFIC
CORPORATION CHEMICAL PACKAGING PLANT, TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
On 25 September 1984, the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Regional Board)
Executive Officer issued a Cleanup and Abatement Order(CAO) to Georgia-Pacific Corporation
(GPC) for waste discharges at the chemical packaging plant at 75 West Valpico Road in Tracy. The
primary constituent of concern at the site is chloroform. The CAO required GPC to stop seepage of
pollutants from the stormwater pond to groundwater and to stop groundwater pollution and odor
nuisance. GPC has stopped the seepage of pollutants and abated the odor nuisance, which
completed those specific tasks in the CAO, and continues to cleanup the groundwater pollution.
On 11 September 2003, Regional Board staff concurred with the implementation of an air/ozone
sparging pilot test. The highest chloroform concentration at the site is currently 62 micrograms per
liter and concentrations are continuing to decline. GPC has complied with the specific requirements
of the CAO and is complying with current Regional Board directives to remediate site pollution.
Therefore, the 25 September 1984 CAO is hereby rescinded.
If you have any questions, you may contact Devra Lewis at (916) 255-3119.
THOMAS R.
