Based upon
information provided in the 1 June 2007 letter, Musco has installed wells MW-6, MW-9,
MW-10, MW-13, a companion well to well MW-14, and a deep borehole in the vicinity of well
MW-14 in an attempt to characterize high saline water found in the vicinity of well MW-2.
Musco also advanced a "hedge well' in the vicinity of the south check field as a potential
background well. First encountered groundwater was located in all wells described above with
the exception of the deep borehole and the "hedge well' which were subsequently abandoned
in place.
Musco also advanced boreholes in the uplands area at locations designated as well C(R3) and
E(R3) per the agreed upon locations. Proposed well D(R3) will not be drilled as discussed in
the 1 June 2007 letter. First encountered groundwater has been located at both the C(R3)
and E(R3) boreholes. At this time, staff understands that Musco has built a well in the E(R3)
location and further assessment of borehole C(R3) is ongoing. Musco has also proposed to
install an additional well south of well MW-6R as an upgradient well.
Based on our meeting 1 June 2007, between Regional Water Board staff, Musco, and
Kennedy/Jenks, staff has asked Musco to terminate well drilling for the time being so the new
wells can be developed and sampled for water quality data. Staff has requested Musco
evaluate the well logs and chemical analytical results and prepare a preliminary results report
to be submitted to staff prior to drilling any additional wells.
Therefore, staff requests the preliminary results report of all Phase I replacement wells and
newly constructed wells be submitted by 28 June 2007. This preliminary report should include
at a minimum a well location map, tabulated chemical analytical results, stiff diagrams of new
and existing wells comparing water chemistry, and potentiometric maps of shallow and deep
California Environmental Protection Agency
C11, Recycled Paper
