- - - - -
' h4 K L E I N F E L D E R
3 FIELD ACTIVITIES
Based upon the available information and discussions with Mr. Tim O'Brian of the RWQCB,
Kleinfelder proposes to advance a total of six (6) soil borings at the Musco Olive Products
facility. Two "deep" borings will be advanced; one at the one million gallon storage pond, and
one boring at the proposed 72 million gallon storage pond. Four (4) "shallow" borings will be
advanced in the disposal field.
3.1 PRE-FIELD ACTIVITIES
The San Joaquin County Public Health Services Department/Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) requires completion of a boring permit and payment fees prior to advancing
exploratory borings. Because this workplan will be reviewed and approved by the RWQCB prior
to commencing field activities, we do not anticipate that submittal of the workplan to PHS/EHD
will be necessary. Kleinfelder will prepare drilling permit applications for submittal to
PHS/EHD along with the required fees and the RWQCB workplan approval. The permits must
be approved prior to drilling and sampling activities. PHS/EHD usually requires up to
approximately two weeks to issue the permits.
The drilling subcontractor will contact Underground Service Alert 48 hours prior to conducting
fieldwork to notify local utilities of our proposed subsurface work. Kleinfelder will additionally
prepare a health and safety plan prior to proceeding with field activities.
3.2 EXPLORATORY BORINGS
3.2.1 Shallow Borings
Four shallow soil borings will be advanced in the land application area to an approximate depth
of thirty (30) feet below the ground surface. Two borings will be advanced in the disposal field
north of the Western Pacific Railroad and two borings will be advanced south of the Western
Pacific Railroad. Boring locations will be dependent upon access and surface conditions.
The four shallow soil borings will be advanced with a track mounted drill rig equipped with
straight flight auger. During advancement of the soil borings, soil samples will be collected at
20-2594-03.W P2/2011 R002 Page 4 of 12
Copyright 2000 Kleinfelder,Inc. December 29,2000
