' k'q KLEINFELDER
' of the boring, the ends of the bottom (first) tube covered with Teflon and sealed with tight fitting
plastic caps. An experienced Kleinfelder environmental geologist logged the borings. Lithologic
classification was based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
' After the soil samples were collected, they were individually labeled with the Kleinfelder job
number, the sample collection date and time, the employee number of the individual who
performed the sampling, and a unique sample identification number. After labeling, the soil
samples were immediately stored in an iced cooler for transport to Kleinfelder sample storage
' under chain-of-custody control. At this time, in accordance with the RWQCB Cleanup and
Abatement Order#5-00-717 (C&A Order), analysis of soil samples from the shallow borings has
not been conducted.
After completion, the shallow borings were grouted in accordance with San Joaquin County
' Public Health Services/Environmental Health Department requirements using a cement based
grout material.
3.2.2 Deep Soil Borings
' The two (2) deep soil borings located at the one million gallon storage pond and proposed 72
million gallon storage pond areas were proposed to be advanced to a maximum depth of 200 to
' 250 feet below the ground surface or until groundwater is encountered. The deep soil borings
were drilled (until groundwater was encountered) at a maximum depth of 121 feet bgs in TW-1,
and 26 feet bgs in TW-2 (boring IW-2 was located at a substantially lower topographic elevation _
than TW-1). Soil samples from the plastic (fat) clay, interpreted to be aquitard material were
' collected for geotechnical analysis and the borings were terminated. Two soil samples were
collected from each deep soil boring for analysis.
The soil borings were drilled with a truck mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch hollow stem
' augers. Soil samples were collected every five feet for lithologic classification and potential
laboratory analysis. Samples were collected by advancing the boring to a point immediately
above the desired sampling depth and then driving a Modified California Split-Spoon Sampler,
' lined with three 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long stainless steel tubes, into the undisturbed soil.
The sampler was then removed from the bottom of the boring. The ends of the bottom (first)
tube were covered with Teflon and sealed with tight fitting plastic caps.
20-2594-03.004/2011 R447 Page 6 of 16
Copyright 2001 Kleinfelder, Inc.
