terraphase
e n g i n e e r i n g
May 8,2014
Mr.Todd Del Frate,P.G.
Engineering Geologist
WDR Compliance and Enforcement
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
11020 Sun Center Drive#200
Rancho Cordova,California
Sent via:email
Subject: Work Plan Addendum to Install Compliance Groundwater Monitoring Wells, Musco Family
Olive Company,Tracy,California
Dear Mr. Del Frate:
Terraphase Engineering Inc. (Terraphase) has prepared this work plan addendum on behalf of Musco
Family Olive Co. (Musco)to set forth the procedures for decommissioning recently installed monitoring
well MW-35 and reinstalling the monitoring well (as MW-35R)further east of the proposed surface
impoundments to be built for the Musco facility located in Tracy,California (Figure 1). In addition, this
work plan addendum discusses the potential installation of two piezometers that can provide the flow
direction and gradient of groundwater in the first water bearing zone expected to be encountered at
MW-35R.
Monitoring well MW-35(Figure 2)was originally installed at a location adjacent and down gradient of
the proposed northern surface impoundment sump. However, due to a revision in the water balance
prepared for the facility, the surface area of the proposed surface impoundments increased and the
location of MW-35 is now within the revised footprint of the proposed surface impoundments.
Therefore, MW-35 will be decommissioned and reinstalled as MW-35R at the approximate location
illustrated on Figure 2.The monitoring well decommissioning and monitoring well/piezometer
installation procedures are discussed below.
Monitoring Well Decommissioning
Pre-Field Activities
The project Health and Safety Plan (HASP)will be amended to address the well decommissioning
activities described in this Work Plan. In addition, the applicable county permits required for the work
will be obtained.
Monitoring Well Abandonment
Monitoring Well MW-35 is located within the revised footprint of the proposed surface impoundments.
Therefore,to seal a potential vertical conduit below the future surface impoundments,Monitoring Well
Terraphase Engineering Inc.
1404 Franklin Street,Suite 600
Oakland,California 94612
w Jerraphase.corn
