Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
One additional shallow monitoring well labeled"Canal Influence"is proposed to be located just
northeast of the proposed Well Cluster 2 on the Safeway property. This groundwater monitoring
well will target the same depth interval as the shallow well in Cluster 2 (i.e., the shallow
groundwater zone)for tho purpose of evaluating the potential impact of leakage from the
California Aqueduct.A total of five groundwater monitoring wells are proposed for Study Area 1.
Access agreements for it stallation and monitoring of wells on the Safeway property have not
yet been secured by Musco(Musco 2008).
Musco believes that the proposed Well Clusters 1 and 2 and the Canal Influence well farther
northeast will provide the data necessary to understand the nature and interaction of
groundwater in the alluvial fan system that underlies the Site with groundwater of regional origin.
More importantly, it is anticipated that these new and the existing monitoring wells will in time
provide the data to support the following:
• Hypothesis of a mixing zone in Area 1 between shallow groundwater and deeper
groundwater;and
• Analysis of sulfate concentrations in onsite Wells MW-12 and MW-7.
8:2.2 Study Area 2
Proposed Soil Boring 4, located approximately 600 feet north of the former 1-MG pond as
shown on Figure 19, will loe drilled to the depth of first encountered groundwater. This boring will
provide lithologic data approximately half-way between existing Wells MW-4 and MW-8 to
supplement the previous findings. This boring will not be completed as a monitoring well, but will
be advanced to better characterize the spatial distribution of clays and sands In Study Area 2,
as well as to confirm that shallow groundwater is absent in this location. If shallow groundwater
is present in this location, the boring will be completed as a groundwater monitoring well. The
stratigraphic data collected in this boring will be used to assess the potential for groundwater to
flow from the natural drainage Swale to the north or northwest of the Site. No access agreement
is heeded.
Proposed Well Cluster 3 is to be located just northeast of the 84-MG reservoir, approximately
halfway between existing Welts MWA6 and MW-4(Figure 19). The purpose of this well is to
assess the depth to grour dwater and groundwater quality in this offsite location,as well as
supplement stratigraphic, data collected in Soil Boring 4.Access agreements for installation and
monitoring at this location have not yet been secured by Musco(Musco 2008). A total of one
soil:-boring and one groundwater monitoring well are proposed for Study Area 2.
8.1 3 Study Area 3
As shown on Figure 19, proposed Well Cluster 5 is to be located near the northernmost reach of
the property, approximately 900 feet northwest of existing Well MW-7. The boring will be
advanced to first encountered groundwater, which is expected to be in the deep zone. The
purpose of this groundwater monitoring well is to assess deep groundwater quality and
elevation at the furthest downgradient on-site location.A total of one well is proposed for Study
Area 3. No access agreement is needed.
Paye,26 Phase f Groundwater Investigation and Work Plan for Phase II Investigation
Musco Family Olive Company, Tracy, California
a4+9av,+nYwMrDAlamy i.moh.no,.pomlmov d,ran..whenmlM.cmwswtpnartaac
