Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
8.2.4 Supplemental Investigation: Upgradient Offsite Deep Well
Installations
Three (3)deep monitoring wells similar to Wells MW-2 and MW-25 are proposed in an ongoing
and supplemental investigation effort to characterize offsite and upgradient water quality
(Section 6.7)and gradient(Figure 4).These data points are considered equal in priority with
those discussed above to collect the information necessary to develop WQPS for the Site. The
locations of the three deep wells identified as PDW-1, -2, and-3 are shown on Figure 20.
Because of the complex terrain surrounding locations PDW-1 and -2,alternative locations are
selected as contingency and they are identified as ADW-1 and ADW-2.
These deep wells are proposed to provide additional water quality and gradient data to further
understand the influences of upgradient groundwater on shallow groundwater quality beneath
the Site and potential mixing of the shallow and deep groundwater. Deep Well PDW-3 is located
near Well MW-3, and Well PDW-2 is adjacent to Well MW-13 with the intent of fingerprinting
water quality signatures in localized areas. Depending on the success of encountering
groundwater at depths of greater than 150 feet(similar to Wells MW-2 and MW-25), Musco may .
propose to the RWQCB additional investigations with inter-well pumping tests and temperature
tracer tests to confirm hydraulic communication within the tightly braided and variable-depth
(i.e. heterogeneous)groundwater zones beneath the Site. The installation and sampling
procedures for these monitoring wells will be similar to those proposed for wells in Study Areas
1 to 3.
8.3 Field Activities
The following field activities will be conducted: drilling and installing monitoring wells, developing
the wells, and collecting groundwater samples from monitoring wells for laboratory analysis.
8.3.1 Pre-Field Activities
The following pre-field activities will be conducted prior to initiating fieldwork at the Site:
• Update the site-specific Health and Safety Plan.
• Complete access negotiations for installation and sampling of offsite monitoring wells.
• Obtain well installation permits from the San Joaquin County EHD.
• Select and mark the specific locations for the new monitoring wells.
• Survey the proposed boring locations for potential location conflicts with subsurface
utilities by performing a utility clearance check prior to drilling. The survey will be
performed by contacting Underground Service Alert(USA)for utility clearance at least
two working days before the scheduled fieldwork commences. In addition, a private
subsurface utility locating service will perform a search for underground utilities at the
proposed drilling locations.
• Contract with a California licensed(C-57)drilling contractor to perform fieldwork.
Phase I Groundwater Investigation Report and Work Plan for Phase I/Investigation Page 27
Musco Family Olive Company, Tracy, California
B'+9d+P+WbN,101Df.mmmNr.WBmVa41d11r196,t1tpAmiY'FW R3y.Ah,•LLwt GInWLLA¢
