Page 5 <br /> 6. Spill Area Clean Up - Scoop up solidified material, booms, pillows, and any other <br /> materials used to clean the spill and put them into a hazardous waste bag. Label the <br /> bag with name of hazardous material and date. Wipe up residual material. Wipe spill <br /> area surface 3 times with a detergent solution. Rinse with clean water. Note: Residual <br /> oil may present a significant slip-fall hazard when area is wet. <br /> 7. Collect supplies and remove gross contamination -Wipe surfaces so they are free <br /> of visible contamination. Put into separate bag that contains equipment that will be <br /> thoroughly washed with detergent and water. <br /> 8. Disposal Procedures - Dispose of spill clean up materials as hazardous waste. Label <br /> with appropriate hazardous waste label and DOT diamond label. If the sorbent has been <br /> used for a flammable or volatile compound, it must be stored in a well-ventilated area <br /> away from ignition sources while awaiting disposal. <br /> 9. Reporting - Notify proper authorities as listed below under Emergency Notification <br /> Procedures &Contacts. <br /> 2.1) Disposal Method of Recovered Materials <br /> In accordance with§112.7(a)3(v) <br /> The following is the disposal procedure: <br /> • Place a "Used Oil" label on the container. Containers should be in good condition, with <br /> no pitting, rusting,or leaking.All containers shall be labeled clearly as"Used Oil."Labels <br /> are available from the Director of Plant Operations & Maintenance (POM). <br /> • When changing oil from maintenance equipment, ensure that no spills occur, and the <br /> oil is drained into the designated used oil container using a funnel and rags. All oil <br /> changes must occur over an impermeable surface or appropriate drain/drip pan away <br /> from any non-protected floor drains. <br /> • Any used oil rags must be placed in a separate storage container and labeled "Used <br /> Oil Rags." The rag storage container shall be stored in a designated facility area <br /> pending removal for laundering or by a hazardous waste hauler. <br /> • Any used sorbents must be placed in a separate storage container and labeled "Used <br /> Oil Sorbent."The sorbent storage container shall be stored in a designated facility area <br /> pending removal for recycling or by a hazardous waste hauler. <br /> • Drain and collect the free-flowing oil from the oil filters and manage the collected oil <br /> under the requirements for used oil. Any used oil filters must be placed in a separate <br /> storage container and labeled "Used Oil Filters." The filter storage container shall be <br /> stored in a designated facility area pending removal for recycling or by a hazardous <br /> waste hauler. <br /> • Drain and collect the free-flowing fuel from the fuel filters and place it back into the <br /> pertinent fuel tank or can. Do not mix drained fuel with used oil in the used oil container. <br /> Any spent fuel filters must be placed in a separate storage container and labeled "Spent <br /> Fuel Filters" or, alternatively, "Used Oil/Fuel Filters." The filter storage container shall <br /> be stored in a designated facility area pending removal for recycling or by a hazardous <br /> waste hauler. <br /> • Maintenance activities performed by contract personnel resulting in the generation of <br /> used oil, used oil filters, spent fuel filters, or oil sorbents shall be removed from the <br /> premises by the contracted vendor. <br /> • Contract for removal of waste materials by a registered hazardous waste hauler or <br /> transfer to a receiving/recycling facility. <br /> • Proper segregation, collection, containment, storage, labeling and accumulation will be <br /> periodically monitored to verify that proper practices are being utilized. <br /> • Maintenance staff and other pertinent staff are initially oriented and annually updated <br /> as to proper practices for handling of used oil and associated articles.
