Mutch
vv, ;>
Vice PresidentR
California Cedar Products 441
M
P.O. Box 358 TS
Stockton, CA 95201
es
Dear
Dear Mr. Mutch:
We have received a copy of the city of Stockton letter to your
company dated March 8, 1989 (copy enclosed). The alleged dispo-
sal of wastes containing ph over 12.5 is a serious concern, as it
qualifies as hazardous waste (see Title 22 California Code of
Regulations §66708). There appear to be both illegal discharge
into the storm sewer (and ultimately state waters) and the land-
fill. In addition, there appears to be violations of the Uniform
Fire Code regarding storage of non compatible materials (acids
and reactive organics), illegal storage of batteries and equipment
washdown entering storm drains.
As these allegations involve agencies and jurisdictions beyond
the City Municipal Utilities District, I believe a meeting
between this office and representatives, of your company should be
arranged. This does not affect the city's ability to independably
proceed with its administrative actions. It is the intention
of this office to determine possible violations of the other
environmental protection statutes listed above.
If we do not hear from you or from other company representatives
by April 13, 1989, we may proceed with formal legal action
without further notice.
Sincerely,
OFFICE OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY
QSA
Ldttly
F.
