The attachments, in conjunction with the sequence of
events, depicts the efforts of POSDEF maintaining and responding to the spill.
Initial containment efforts mitigated free liquid acid and resulted in the soil that was
removed to be anon-hazardous soil with a pH equal to 3.18, a 100% survival of fathead
minnows at 1,000 ppm, Reactive Cyanide (SW846 7.3) <0.5 mg/kg and Reactive Sulfide
(SW846 7.3) <10 mg/kg. Thus allowing us to meet the waste discharge limits of Forward
Inc.'s Class II waste management unit.
Affected soil was remove until the exposed soil matched, plus or minus one pH,the
background pH of samples taken at a different location on POSDEF's property. The final
average pH of the ten(10) samples taken from the excavated site came to 7.0+- 0.5 pH
units, soil removal was complete.
