,
Response and Cleanup,of Sulfuric Acid Spill
POSDEF Power Company,L.P.
2526 W.Washington St.
Stockton,CA.95203
cleanup. I have enclosed a copy of the Environmental Health notification of hazardous
waste discharge.
Tuesday,July 18, 1995, Ericson and JL arrived to resume work. Following the methods
used on the previous day both Ericson and JL continued removing soil with a pH of less
than 6. At the end of the day Ericson was released. The majority of the severely
contaminated soil had been removed by this time and was being temporarily stored on
site in Ericson hazardous waste roll off bins. JL will return to generate a composite
sample of the stored soil and will then pass the sample, via chain of custody,to Ericson's
environmental lab, CHROMA LABS for CAM metals and corrosivity testing, prior to
proper disposal. A copy of this analysis will be enclosed on our end of the month report
to Environmental Health.
Wednesday,July 19, 1995. POSDEF continued to remove soil that was less than pH 6
but greater than pH 2 (non-hazardous soil) and POSDEF will continue to remove soil
pursuant to the directions of San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department.
Thursday, July 20, 1995. POSDEF has requested a metallographic analysis on the failed
pipe from Nalco Chemical Company's Analytical Lab. This analysis will determine if
proper metallurgy was used and how the failure could have been prevented. Soil removal
continues.
Friday„ July 21, 1995. The soil removal with pH greater than 2 but less than 6 should be
complete by the end of the day. JL will gather a composite of the soil to be disposed and
send it off via chain of custody to CHROMA LABS for CAM metals and corrosivity
testing.
