•
2 TANK ASSESSMENT
2.1 Tank Confieuration 122 CCR E 66265.191(e)(DI
11
The used oil tank is a cylindrical tank that is elevated approximately 20 -inches off the ground on a
metal cradle. The tank sits in a horizontal configuration (see photos in Appendix A) and has a
diameter of 35 -inches and a length of 60 -inches with a capacity of 250 gallons.
The used oil tank is located in the petroleum product storage area, which is a fully contained
concrete walled pad that provides secondary containment. The petroleum product storage area is
located directly south of the landfill's main entrance facility. The used oil tank is located at the
north end of the petroleum storage area and is aligned in an east -west direction.
2.2 Desien Standards 122 CCR L 66265.191(e)(2)1
The used oil tank is a metal tank that is UL Listed as an Underground Tank for Flammable Liquids.
Based on information engraved on the tank, the thickness of the tank is 12 gauge.
There are five ports with screw top caps located on the top of the tank. An approximately 3 -ft wide
by 2 -ft long by 2 -ft high metal fill container sits above the furthest west port and funnels used oil
into the tank. The fill container has a sliding panel opening and a shelf on which motor filters can be
placed, allowing the used oil to drain through the funnel into the tank.
The furthest east port is used to drain the tank by inserting a suction hose that pumps the used oil
directly into the transport truck. The used oil is transported to a certified used oil recycling facility.
The remaining tank ports are closed with screw top caps.
There are no piping or pumping systems associated with the tank. A sketch of the tank is provided
in Appendix B.
2.3 Age of Tank System 122 CCR Z 66265.191(e)(3)1
Based on discussion with the site supervisor, Ruben Ramirez, the tank was in use at the facility
before July 1, 1991. It is, therefore, considered an existing tank.
2.4 Leak Detection Equipment 122 CCR & 66265.191(8)(4)1
The tank can be visually inspected from all sides for leaks. Also, any leaks or spills can be readily
observed in the concrete walled pad used for secondary containment.
2.5 Corrosion Protection Eauipment 122 CCR E 66265.191(8)(5)1
The tank is elevated in a metal cradle and is, therefore, not in direct contact with corrosive soil
materials. A corrosion resistant paint was applied to the tank, however, the paint has worn off in ;s planning to
several locations.
