NARRATXVE
In addition, the district has standardized the color scheme, which
presently consists of three colors. Eventually renovated schools will be
painted with colors standardized by the District.
C. ANNUAL EMPLOYEE TRAINING
Annual Hazardous Waste Awareness training is provided to employees
involved in managing, storing or handling hazardous waste. The training
covers hazardous waste recordkeeping and management; hazardous
waste identification; container and tank requirements; land disposal
restriction; and tiered permitting requirements. The training also includes
waste minimization measures, as described in this plan or new/revised
measures that are expected to be implemented as part of the source
reduction plan.
D. ELIMINATION OF SCHOOL WASTE CONSOLIDATION AT FACILITY
SERVICES
Previously, various schools within the school district would send wastes for
consolidation to the Facility Services site for recycling or disposal.
Currently, each school has obtained an EPA identification number and has
contracted a hazardous waste transporter to transfer waste, from each
school, for disposal or recycling to a permitted Treatment Storage and
Disposal Facility (TSDF).
E. HOUSEKEEPING
Improved housekeeping procedures will reduce the likelihood of
spills/releases of products by maintaining a clean and orderly facility.
Facility Services will inspect areas of industrial activity, waste
handling/accumulation, 'storm water discharge locations, and drainage
areas, to determine housekeeping needs. Inspections are conducted
weekly and documented. Debris, wastes, and spilled, tracked, or leaked
materials shall be cleaned, disposed of properly, and the weekly
inspection form corrective action completed accordingly.
Dry sweeping, use of a hydrophobic mop, or rags that can be laundered
are additional source reduction options. Whenever feasible, small releases
Stockton Unified School District NETWORK ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS,INC.
Hazardous Waste Source Reduction Plan 8
