NARP.ATXVE
V. DESCRIPTION OF MA30R WASTE STREAMS
For each of the major waste streams identified in Section IV, information is
provided below describing how the hazardous waste is generated. All hazardous
waste generated at the facility is disposed or recycled off site. A flow diagram of
each process generating a major waste stream is provided in Appendix A.
A. CWC 214 — WASTE PAINT THINNER
Waste paint thinner is routinely generated at the site. Paint thinner is
used to clean painting equipment, such as spray guns, brushes, etc. Once
the paint thinner is used, it is then put into 55-gallon containers and
accumulated as a RCRA hazardous waste.
B. CWC 221 — LUBE OIL
Vehicles and equipment lube oils were stored on site. Over time, the oils
were no longer usable and became retrograde materials. In 2002, the oils
were characterized as a RCRA hazardous waste and were consolidated for
off-site recycling. Although lube oil is used on site, it is not anticipated
that this waste stream will be generated in the future because inventory
controls will be put in place (refer to Section III).
C. CWC 223 - OILY WATER
Oily water is generated from the washing of vehicles and equipment.
There are two wash systems generate the oily water: the bus wash and
the steam pit. Both systems are connected to a 3-stage clarifier. The
tanks in the clarifiers are cleaned approximately twice a year to remove
the sludge. Pressurized water is used to suspend the sludge for removal
and the oily water is transferred into a tanker truck for recycling. The bus
wash is a closed system. The water is returned to the system following
treatment by the clarifier. Water leaving the steam pit treatment system
is discharged to the sanitary sewer after treatment by the clarifier.
D.
