AR TIVE
kept closed except when being added to or removed from the container.
Containers holding liquids and dispersible solids must also be kept airtight.
Containers of paint and paint thinner should be stored in the designated
enclosed, storage areas. The containers or materials should not come into
contact with rainwater or left open to evaporate.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS)
SOPS will be developed and implemented by for painting operations, vehicle
maintenance and washing, and building maintenance. SOPS will be
developed with the intent of reducing the amount of waste generated from
operations discharging water into the oil water separator.
Managers/Supervisors will be responsible for the development and
implementation of the procedures. Review and assessment of SOPs for each
department will occur annually.
Training
Training will be provided for department managers, facility operators, and
employees. Training will include job specific techniques, safety requirements,
SOPs, hazardous material and hazardous waste management, and source
reduction measures. Training facility operators will decrease the amount of
waste generated at the source by reducing the amount of spills and leaks that
occur from operator error. A description of general annual training is
provided in Section III General Administrative Controls.
Specific Job Training for Painters
Training provided for department managers and painting operations staff will
focus on job specific techniques and safety requirements. In particular,
painters will be trained on estimating and ordering the amount of paint
needed for a project and receive guidance regarding which preferred products
to order to complete the project. SOPS will require that the current supply of
painting materials be checked prior to the ordering new materials.
The four-year numerical goal for latex paint is 25%.
Stockton Unifted School District NETWORK ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS,INC.
Hazardous Waste Source Reduction Plan 20
