AMh
AR TIVE
Training
Training provided for department managers and painting operations staff will
focus on job specific techniques and safety requirements. In particular,
painters will be trained on estimating and ordering the amount of paint
needed for a project and receive guidance regarding which preferred products
to order to complete the project. SOPS will require that the current supply of
painting materials be checked prior to the ordering new materials.
Specific Job Training for Steam Pit and Bus Wash Operators
Training provided for department managers and vehicle repair staff will focus
on job specific techniques and safety requirements. Steam pit operators
should be trained on the location of the designated wash area, how the
washing system operates, washing techniques, waste reduction measures and
elimination of overspray from leaving containment area..
The four-year numerical goal for oily water is 5%.
CWC 291 - LATEX PAINT
Preventative Maintenance
Preventative maintenance on painting equipment (such as spray guns) is
performed on a scheduled basis. Preventative maintenance includes
inspections of equipment and will be performed weekly. The inspections will
consist of a thorough examination of equipment for cracks, leaks in piping,
rusting, or oxidized surfaces. These inspections will reduce the amount of
waste generated from spills and leaks. In addition, each department should
establish a schedule and procedures for prompt maintenance and repair of
equipment and systems when problems are noted during an inspection.
Product Storage
Stored paint will first be used prior to the purchase of painting products. This
will reduce the amount of products stored. Proper storage of products, such
as lube oil and latex paint, should reduce the amount of waste generated
from rainwater contamination, evaporation, or release from containers
knocked over. Containers holding a hazardous material or waste must be
Stockton Unified School District NETWORK ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS,INC.
Hazardous Waste Source Reduction Plan 19
