All universal waste aerosol cans shall be handled in a manner that prevents fire,explosion and the <br /> unauthorized release of any universal waste or component of a universal waste to the environment. <br /> 2. All empty aerosol cans may be placed in the proper trash or recycling receptacle. (An aerosol can is <br /> empty when its spray mechanism is not defective and thus allowed discharge of all the contents and <br /> propellant to the maximum extent practical under normal use.) <br /> 3. All non-empty aerosol cans are those that are not empty but are being discarded for reasons such as: <br /> a. The spraying mechanism no longer works and cannot be repaired <br /> b. The product is no longer needed or used <br /> c. The user decides to discard it. <br /> 4. All non-empty aerosol cans shall be placed in a container that can be closed,is structurally sound and <br /> is compatible with the contents of the universal waste aerosol can.It shall show no evidence of leakage, <br /> spillage or damage that could cause leakage under reasonably foreseeable conditions. <br /> S. When accumulating non-empty aerosol cans for pick up by a universal waste handler please adhere to <br /> the following: <br /> a. Accumulate and transport universal waste aerosol cans in containers that are structurally <br /> sound,and compatible with the contents of the can,and show no evidence of leaks,spills or <br /> damage that could cause leaks. <br /> b. Keep containers closed that are used to accumulate or transport non-empty aerosol cans <br /> except when adding or removing waste. <br /> c. Cover containers at the end of each workday that are used to accumulate universal waste <br /> aerosol cans for processing or shipping. <br /> d. Place accumulation containers in a location with sufficient ventilation to prevent formation of <br /> an explosive atmosphere. <br /> e. Place the container on a surface that is free of cracks and gaps and is sufficiently impervious <br /> and bermed to contain leaks. <br /> f. Keep the container a safe distance from heat and open flames <br /> g. During accumulation sort cans by type and compatibility. <br /> 6. The accumulation container shall be labeled with one of the following phrases: <br /> a. Universal Waste-Aerosol Cans <br /> b. Waste Aerosol Cans <br /> c. Used Aerosol Cans <br />
